| Local Bottling Plant Tank Level
Monitoring |
| The local bottling plant syrup tanks were overfilling or
running empty, costing the bottler money due to downtime
or lost product. The tanks, which are 18 feet tall, made of
Stainless Steel, and have an agitator inside, needed some
kind of level indication. Monitoring levels in tanks is one
of the primary applications for ultrasonic sensors. The IRU-2000 series sensors are ideal for
tanks up to 25 feet deep. The sensor provides a 4-20mA analog signal that can be scaled based
on the tank depth. The analog scaling, filtering, and response time is user programmable
through an RS-232 interface to meet the requirements of most tank applications. Turbulent
surfaces and agitators are easily filtered to provide reliable level indication. With this being a
sanitary environment, the IRU-2333 ultrasonic sensor was used. This sensor has a 3" SS sanitary
fitting. |

| Mounting and Installation procedures / requirements |
With this being a sanitary environment, the IRU-2333 was used
to fit with the sanitary fitting on the top of the tanks. With the
agitator in the middle of the tank, the sensors were mounted 1/2
way between the center of the tank and the sidewall of the tank.
The ultrasonic was calibrated to ignore the agitator and just read
the level of the syrup. The 4-20mA signal was scaled for the
size of the tank.
