Sensing Plastic Pellet Levels in Large Silos
Ultrasonic Sensors provide an accurate method of
measuring and monitoring the level of Plastic
Pellets, or Resins in large silos and bins. This level
measurement method provides a very accurate noncontact
level indication on a continuing basis.
Other mechanical devices have moving parts that
clog, and breakdown. There are no mechanical
moving parts on Ultrasonic Sensors.
APG offers two options when
choosing a suitable sensor for a large plastics
storage silo. The DCU-1100 Ultrasonic Sensors are selfcontained,
and offer an adjustable 4-20 mA analog
output, and 2 solid state form "A" relay switches
(200 mA @ 24 VDC). This sensor has a built in, 4
digit display that is used for programming, and
displays either the level or volume measurement. A
NEMA 4X rating allows this sensor to be mounted
in outdoor environments.
The DCR/DST combination is used when a remote display is needed. The controller
has a 4 digit LCD display, and can be located up to
2000 ft. away from the sensor. This gives the
manager easy access to inventory levels. The
display can be programmed to read the level from
the top, or the volume of product in the tank. The
sensor is powered from the controller, so only one
24 VDC or 110/220 VAC power supply is needed.
The sensor and controller communicate over a
coaxial cable. Outputs from the DCR controller
include a 4-20 mA analog output, and (4) solid state
form "A" relay switches.
Both the DCU-1100 and the DCR/DST sensors have
42kHz transducers that give a measuring range of
up to 35 ft. in Plastic Pellet, and Resin applications.
One advantage of the DCR/DST combination is that it
provides for an inexpensive remote display/
controller. |
