Ultrasonic sensors are ideally suited for web
control applications in steel production and
processing because of their ease of
configuration and reliability. The non-contact
solution offers the benefits of no moving parts and
superior performance in dirty environments.
While ultrasonic sensors are a great solution for
web-control applications, there are several critical
parameters which must be set properly to insure
accuracy and reliable operation. The sensor
provides an easily configured solution for web
control which is quickly incorporated into any
existing PLC platform. It can also be used as a stand
alone controller to directly control a variablefrequency
drive.
The design lets you quickly optimize
parameters critical to web control, including
sensitivity, blanking range, signal strength, sample
rate, signal filtering characteristics, and
compensation for noise and temperature. The
even comes preset to handle those
requirements normally encountered in web-handling
applications.
The value of solution is further enhanced by its
unique recipe capability where you can store two
different sets of operating parameters in the event
that different materials are handled on the same
line. As an added bonus, the unit can provide fast
web-break feedback. |
